简 (jiǎn) means simple. We put sound before script, conversation before grammar, and your goal before the textbook.
You talk in every lesson, from the first one. Roughly 25 of the 40 minutes are you speaking, with your teacher prompting and correcting.
Tones aren't an advanced topic. They are the difference between 妈 (mā, mother) and 马 (mǎ, horse). Your teacher fixes them while they're still new.
Pinyin gets you speaking in weeks. Characters are added when they help your goal, such as reading a menu or texting a cousin, never as a hurdle before you can talk.
